D'ANJOU PEARS POACHED IN RED WINE ENJOY DAN:

                 D’ANJOU PEARS POACHED IN RED WINE by CHEF DAN:
Serves 3

INGREDIENTS:
3 firm pears, peeled, halved and cored
2 cups water
1/4-cup maple syrup
1/2-cup red wine
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 whole star anise
3 tablespoons cardamom pods
2 cinnamon sticks
1 teaspoon whole cloves
2 tablespoon pure maple syrup for drizzling.

DIRECTIONS:
1.   In a skillet combine water and remaining ingredients.
2.   Add pears and bring to a simmer over medium-low heat.
3.   Simmer for 30 minutes, turning pears half way through cooking.
4.   With a slotted spoons transfer pear to a prepared baking dish.
5.   Pour pouching liquid over top.
6.   Serve in plates and drizzle maple syrup over the top.
