GREEN TOMATO AND APPLE CRISP by CHEF DAN:
Serves 8-10
INGREDIENTS:
FILLING:
5-6 cup green tomatoes, chopped
5-6 apples, chopped
3 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2-teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon lemon juice
TOPPING:
1/2-cup brown sugar
1/4-cup butter, melted
1/2-cup all-purpose flour
1/4-cup corn meal
3/4-teaspoon nutmeg
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1 cup rolled oats
DIRECTIONS. (PRE-HEAT OVEN TO 375-DEGREES)
FILLING:
1. Melt the butter in a pan and add the rest of the ingredients.
2. Cook until everything is soft and the liquid starts to evaporate some.
3. Let it get as thick as you want.
4. Pour into a greased 9x13 baking dish.
TOPPING:
1. In a bowl, combine the brown sugar, flour, cornmeal, nutmeg, cinnamon, and rolled oats.
2. Stir in melted butter.
3. Sprinkle topping over the tomato-apple filling and bake at 375-degrees for 45-50 minutes or until filling is bubbling and top is brown.
4. Serve warm and top with whipped topping.
